Our company’s history dates back to 1935 when Mignot & de Block developed a cigar banding machine for own use. After their own needs were met, this machine was also supplied to other cigar manufacturers. Since then PMB is known as the original cigar machinery company, due to the many years of experience.
What is the relation between VDL PMB and the VDL Groep?
VDL PMB is a subsidairy of VDL Packaging bv, which is part of the successful VDL Groep. This family is well known for manufacturing machine components, machinery, equipment, and automotive/buses. VDL controls 106 subsidiaries and employs more than 16.000 individuals in 20 countries.
What do the abbreveations "PMB" and "VDL" mean?

Are my production needs high enough to make a tobacco machine worth it?
To calculate if a tobacco machine is worth it, it is important to know how many cigars you want to make in a month in a certain amount of shifts per day. Knowing that we can look together if a machine is worth it for you. Because of our wide variety of machines, it is almost certain we can help you out within your budget.
How many cigars per minute (CPM) can a tobacco machine produce?
The machine speed of a tobacco machines is usually respresented by cigars per minute (CPM).
The speed depends on several factors, such as cigar sizes, and operator experience. We are always puching the boundaries of our machines maximum speed. Our two HSO’s can for example run at an extraordinary speed of 500 CPM.
Can a tobacco machine handle different types of cigars, sizes, and kind of leaves?
Yes, our tobacco machines have the possibility to be converted tot different measurements. Converting can be done by simply replace a few parts. To be sure that our machines meet your requirements contact our sales department.
What is the lifetime of a tobacco machine?
Since 1935 we have made many different types of machines. Because of our long-lasting quality, many of our older machines are still running, and we are still providing spare parts for them. In general, if the machines are properly maintained, they will last for a very long time.
What is VDL PMB machine warranty policy?
We believe in our products and stand behind them, therefore we offer a twelve (12) month manufacturer’s warranty for the original product. This limited warranty covers any defects or nonconformity resulting from faulty design, materials, or workmanship during the warranty period. During this warranty period, VDL PMB will in case of a defect, repair the product, or replace the product with a product with equivalent functionality.
To obtain this warranty service, you must contact VDL PMB. The proof of purchase may be required to verify ownership.
VDL PMB reserves the right at any time, to modify or discontinue the warranty without notice. No rights can be derived from the above.

To prevent break down and jam it is important to clean and oil your machine regularly. To ensure the maximum lifetime of your machine we advise to regularly replace wear and tear parts on your machines such as cutting knives and needles.

Both machine- and hand-rolled cigars are commonly produced, but there are some benefits of machine-rolled cigars against hand-rolled ones:
- The more consistent tobacco weight assures a more consistent draw
- Machine-rolled cigars have lower production costs
- A machine uses less floor space for the same production amount of several cigar rollers

What types of cigars are there?
In general, we distinguish two types of cigars, the long filler, and short filler. You can also distinguish between the different shapes of a cigar. The list below shows a summary of some cigar shapes.

What are cigar sizes?
Most of the cigars produced by our machines are between 20 and 52-ring size (or 7 and 20 mm). For example, a cigar that is called “5 x 44” is 5 inches long and 44/64ths of an inch in diameter.
But we wouldn't be PMB if we didn't have an easy yardstick for this. The example below shows our handy things, both in inches and millimeters.
What is de difference between a short and long filler cigar?
The difference between short and long filler cigars lies in the filler. In order to get short filler cigars the tobacco leaves are trashed into small pieces for the filler. Long filler cigars are produced by pressing multiple leaves together and enclose them with a binder followed by a wrapper.
Are VDL PMB machines easy to operate?
Yes, our machines are spicificly engineered for the ease of operation. Because of this operators do not require advanced technical knowledge.
